Wimbledon Tennis - Anyone for Lycra ?
Ann White - White Catsuit
In 1985 on an outside court at Wimbledon USA tennis player Ann White took to the court in a white spandex catsuit. Wearing the catsuit she managed to get to one set all against the seeded player Pam Shriver. When the match resumed the next day she had been presuaded to wear something more appropriate - without the power of spandex she lost the last set.
Maybe one day lycra catsuits will become the norm at wimbledon ......

Superheroes in Spandex
One of key stages in popularising the wearing of spandex are the outfits worn by superheroes.
Of course if one is being 100% accurate the creation of most superheroes predates the invention of spandex in 1959. Because spandex is skintight, as many superhero costumes appear to be drawn, and because spandex is almost exclusively made in the same bright solid colors as the early Golden Age comics, the after-the-fact assumption of spandex composition was made.
Our two examples below show that these days no superhero would dare to dress in anything else than spandex.

Beyonce in Black Spandex Catsuit
Beyonce in Black Spandex Catsuit
Is this the greatest ever example of wearing a catsuit on national TV ? This was on the US Today Show at the Rockerfeller Centre in New York. Not only is she wearing a classic soft spandex catsuit but she has some killer boots on as well. As usual when a big star wears spandex it is virtually impossible to see what the backing singers are wearing but it appears they are also in killer catsuits.
Beyonce I am finally a fan.....

Spandex At The Movies - Galaxina
Galaxina was a low-budget 1980 science fiction movie featuring the actress Dorothy Stratten in a white spandex catsuit. Her character is a robot that is charged with a defense screen that shocks anyone who touches her. that would be frustrating for a spandex fan.
Galaxina was a meant to be a parody of films such as Star Trek and Star Wars.
Dorothy Stratten was Playboy, Playmate of the year for 1980
The sad postscript to this movie is that Dorothy Stratten was murdered shorty after the film comes out.
The film gets an average score of 2.5 out of 10 on IMDB so it may be one for spandex fans only.

Strictly Come Dancing Ban Catsuits
Tagic news below means we will not be seeing a repeat of Ola Jordan in her leopard skin catsuit.
STRICTLY Come Dancing bosses have banned the female stars from wearing catsuits - after they all demanded one.
The wardrobe department was overwhelmed with requests for the skin-tight all-in-ones after Ola Jordan triumphed wearing one dancing with Andrew Castle.
A source on the BBC1 show said: "In the end we had to tell them no one could have one, or they'd all have ended up wearing the same outfit.
"The last few weeks have been absolutely hectic with all the stars demanding last minute alterations to their frocks to make them look slimmer, leggier and bustier.
"It's caused absolute carnage backstage - not to mention a lot of bitching."

Big Brother 10 - Our Spandex Catsuits
Legwearuk's Black catsuits have featured on this years Big Brother show in the UK. The task involved a contestant in a felsh zentai ( minus head and hands) avoiding laser beams. If he touched a beam a balloon held by our spandex clad housemates popped covering them with liquid. These Balloons were held chest high - Surely not so the girls chests get wet ?

Spandex - Cosplay
Cosplay is a growing area in the spandex scene - almost uniquely it is non sexual and aimed at having fun.
A better definition and description is given below
Cosplay has a couple of meanings, but the most relevant is the merging of the words costume and play. If you want to wear a costume while attending an event (perhaps even to compete or to perform a short sketch), then you have entered the exciting world of cosplay.
Wikipedia describes Cosplay as follows:
Cosplay (ć³ć¹ćć¬ kosupure), a contraction (or portmanteau) of the English words "costume" and "play", is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, Japanese movies, or Japanese pop music bands. However, in some circles, "cosplay" has been expanded to mean simply wearing a costume.
In Japan, "cosplay" as a hobby is usually an end unto itself. Likeminded people gather to see other costumes, show off their own elaborate handmade creations, take lots of pictures, and possibly participate in best costume contests.
The most specific anecdote about the origin of the word "cosplay" was that Nov Takahashi (from a Japanese studio called Studio Hard) coined the term "cosplay" as a contraction of the English-language words "costume play" while he was attending the 1984 Los Angeles Science Fiction Worldcon. He was so impressed by the hall and masquerade costuming there that he reported about it frequently in Japanese science fiction magazines. This ultimately triggered Japanese cosplay. This point is debatable.
Wikipedia goes on to say that Cosplay in the United States and Europe differs from Japanese cosplay culture in that cosplay concerning Sci-Fi films and TV shows along with Renaissance-era characters, and historical re-enactments (i.e. Civil War battles), especially at science fiction conventions, are far more popular in the West than they are in Japan.
It also mentions that another recent trend in cosplay is a blurring of the distinction between costumes based on characters from games and anime, and "original" costumes based upon a general theme or existing fashions. In particular, the Tokyo teen-fashion trend of gothic lolita has attracted some cosplayers who might not have the inclination to wear such distinctive clothes around town, but who would like to dress in such a manner on some occasions.

The Spandex Questionnaire Number 9

1. What sparked your interest in Spandex?
I always loved seeing girls wearing spandex gym outfits and when I was about 12 felt a real urge to try wearing my mums capri gymi leggings. When everyone was out I secretly tried them on - they were really tight and shiny and felt amazing to wear. 2. What are your spandex interests?
Wearing any kind of spandex and seeing girls wearing it are both a real turn on.
3. What is your favourite item of spandex clothing?
Love my tight shiny black catsuit. Being covered in all that lycra feels amazing.4. Are you into Zentais?
I have not yet tried zentai. Not sure about covering my face and all, but want to give it a go sometime as they do look pretty cool.
NB Legwearuk will be stocking zentais with an open face in a couple of weeks.
5. What Spandex websites do you use?
6. What celebrity would you like to see in Spandex?
The tennis player Anna Ivanovic, she is a great looking girl and has a nice body that deserves to be wrapped up in tight lycra!

Herorines Of Lycra - Diana Moran
Diana Moran is more commonly known in the UK as 'The Green Goddess'. The height of her fame was achieved between 1983 and 1987, when she hosted the popular exercise segment of BBC1's Breakfast Time programme in her trademark green leotard. Breakfast TV was an new concept in those days and 'The Green Goddess' became a household name.
In 2007 she starred in the band Superthrillers video ahjustwannadance ( available on youtube) sadly she wore a tracksuit throughout.
A number of her VHS tapes are available on ebay for very little but they do not seem to have been copied onto DVD.
As you can see from the photos for a woman of 70 she looks fantastic ( and so does the lycra).
